Medium Smart Wallet

I used to fold banknotes into quarters to fit them in a coin purse. The creases made them awkward to use. I adapted a wallet idea by an architect friend, then refined it through my own daily use.

Slide banknotes out and return them by slipping them in or opening the retaining belt. There are two card storage areas; the inner strap holds about five cards, and carrying fewer keeps the wallet slimmer.

An optional coin pocket carries a modest amount of change. Check the purchase options for your preferred handedness.

I wax the flesh side to reduce loose fibres and oil the leather for flexibility. BLACK and WOODY ASH BLACK gain structure from beeswax worked into the leather; WOODY NATURAL and BROWN use a water-based hardener applied selectively to the reverse.

I keep stitching to the necessary places and cut the note-retaining belt as part of the body. For WOODY, I thin the folding areas to ease the three-fold shape.

For WOODY, I use vegetable-tanned leather embossed with real wood. The grain can differ from the photographs, giving the leather its own pattern.

Choose BLACK or a WOODY colour. The wood embossing is specific to WOODY.

WOODY BROWN is hand-dyed with a translucent dye, so the leather’s natural markings can produce variations in colour.

Keep the beeswax-treated BLACK and WOODY ASH BLACK away from hot storage locations. If wax blooms white on WOODY ASH BLACK, polish it with a soft cloth.
